Thank you, Nita...I just got home late last night...dead tired too! My sister came back to mom's on Tuesday and we have worked our butts off. I had the living room painted and mostly cleaned when she got there and then we painted and cleaned the hallway, both bathrooms, dining room, kitchen and laundry room. I can't believe how my mom has changed in her home. She always had a clean home but had given up on it about 5 years ago....it was in pretty bad shape, to say the least. But, it looks and smells much better now. In Feb. we will be going back and painting and cleaning the bedrooms. We just ran out of time and energy for now... Since I was so tired, we didn't do anything today for my birthday...just relaxed and enjoyed each others company. I think he missed me...LOL....I've never been away from him for more than a couple days and this time it was a week.
You did just what I thought you would (Worked your tail off) Glad you had a good visit with your family and got to help you Mother out. With my parents and Brents parents I noticed the lack of cleaning with age.
Glad to know mom isn't the only one. I know she can't see as well as she used to but she still gets around ok...if she was using a walker or had a lot of arthritis, I could understand but she doesn't so I can't see why she can't dust things. And the dust was SOOOO thick, I know she could see it. She has tons of nick knacks and you couldn't hardly tell what colors they all were from the dust. I took all of them to the kitchen sink and washed them all off with water...dusting wasn't going to do the job. Course, dad doesn't help anything cause he walks in the house with his shoes on....mud, water and all. And when he carries a glass of water or plate of food, he spills it all over the place so I get it when she says she just gave up. She stated that no ones comes to their house anymore so she doesn't see the point of cleaning it. I don't have a lot of company here either but it would embarrass the hell out of me if someone showed up and my house was that dirty, even if it was just a salesman. My mother spends over 12 hours in bed (and then wonders why she doesn't sleep good...lol)...she gets up at 7:00, takes a half hour nap at noon and then goes to bed at 7 PM...basically, she just goes to bed to read. She reads a book in a couple days. I'm trying to get dad signed up for VA benefits so he can get his meds cheaper and maybe get some home health care. He still drives but he can't walk without support or his walker...scary!! LOL Got to love em!
